Frequently Asked Questions

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is extremely safe if performed by a professionally trained and licensed acupuncturist. Dr. Klemt uses only stainless steel, sterilized, single-use disposable needles to keep with his office’s strict hygienic standards.

Will it hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very thin and many patients feel nothing when the needles are inserted. Sometimes a slight pinch will be felt upon insertion. A sensation of warmth, a slight ache or a gentle tingling sensation may also be perceived.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments a person will need varies. This can depend on many factors, but it is often found that noticeable improvement is made within 3-4  treatments. Dr. Klemt will be constantly assessing your condition and working to determine whether further treatments are necessary. Chronic conditions may require a longer course of treatment.

What happens in a typical office visit?

New patients will receive a consultation in which they will fill out an intake form and answer questions that will provide Dr. Klemt with pertinent health information (please note all information is kept confidential as per HIPAA regulations). Dr. Klemt will feel the patient's pulse, observe their tongue, feel their abdomen, observe their gait and posture and possibly perform some orthopedic tests in order to refine his diagnosis. He will then discuss with the patient treatment options and explain a general treatment plan that could include acupuncture, herbal therapy, tuina/Chinese medical massage, etc. As treatments progress, he will continually reassess the patient's condition and modify the treatment plan as needed.

How should I prepare for a treatment?

Wear comfortable loose clothing. Do not come with an empty stomach, but also do not eat or drink too much.

How will I feel after acupuncture?

Everyone responds differently to acupuncture and you may feel differently from treatment to treatment. Sometimes people feel energized and other times people feel relaxed. You can generally expect to resume normal daily activities after your treatment, although it is best to avoid stressful or vigorous activities.

Is acupuncture covered by health insurance?

Some health insurance companies do cover acupuncture. Dr. Klemt is happy to assist you with verifying your coverage.
